DG Vanzara, NK Amin and JG Parmar, the encounter specialists of Gujarat, are in a fix yet again. Right before the 2002 Rath Yatra, news papers in Gujarat carried the news of a plan to attack the Rath Yatra which was foiled by Ahmedabad Crime Branch in a big way. The Gujarat Police claimed that they had seized large amounts of ammunition including rocket launchers, bombs, revolvers, rifles and so on. Twenty two people were arrested by a team led by Vanzara abd NK Amin. JG Parmar was the investigating officer for this case.
"When Babari Masjid was demolished several innocent Muslims were attacked, houses were destroyed, looted and burnt and women were raped. While questioning the injustice done to my Muslim brothers and sister, I responded with a statement at that time in many public places that `even if a thousand mosques are demolished, not even a fistful sand from a temple should be lifted, my children!’ But they put me behind bars with fabricated cases in jail in Coimbatore without even a trial for nine and a half years.
"New Delhi, 14 August 2014: Around 11:30 am this morning, 10-12 armed plain-clothed sleuths allegedly of Special Cell were caught by local residents while they were raiding in Zakir Nagar locality of Jamia Nagar here in the National Capital. Residents led by popular local politician-activist Amanatullah Khan brought the sleuths to Jamia Nagar Police Station and handed them over to the police. Mr. Khan claimed he along with local residents foiled a conspiracy of the police ahead of Independence Day.
'Recently, Gujarat Police is having a very hard time with the Supreme Court. Judgements after judgements in various ‘terror cases’ are shredding apart the integrity of Gujarat Police and putting a big question mark on their capabilities. On July 17, 2014, the Supreme Court, in a landmark judgement, has acquitted all the eleven persons who were convicted and sentenced by a TADA Court in October 2008 for alleged involvement in the ‘twin blasts’ Surat bomb blasts case of 1993.
" The Supreme Court on Friday acquitted all the 11 accused convicted for 1993 Surat bomb blast in Gujarat, in which a woman was killed and several people were injured. An apex court bench of Justice T.S. Thakur and Justice C. Nagappam while acquitting the 11 accused reversed the TADA court verdict that gave them imprisonment varying from 10 to 20 years... In October 2008, a TADA court in Surat had sentenced five persons, including former Congress minister Mohammad Surti, to 20 years in prison while others were awarded 10 years jail term in the cases."
Madhya Pradesh, with 185 cases has the maximum number of terror related arrests (937) connected to Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). Even a cursory glance at these cases reveal several loopholes in the prosecution story, widespread violation of the law and a systemic discrimination against the minority Muslims. Despite the high number of cases registered in the state, reporting on the issue has been negligible. In 2013, Shazia Nigar travelled across Madhya Pradesh collecting data, meeting the accused and their family.
'The Anti Terrorism Squad of Maharashtra police on Monday opposed the discharge applications of nine Muslim accused arrested in the 2006 Malegaon blasts case.
The court had directed ATS to submit its say on the discharge applications, after one of the accused belonging to a right-wing Hindu group demanded that court seek replies of CBI and ATS on the issue.
